Cleckheaton U13's v Spen Victoria U13's
at Cleckheaton Ground
Thursday May 8th, 2008
.
At last some proper cricket weather and a lovely looking Cleckheaton ground was the stage for the U13
first away fixture of the season. After last weeks disappointment the boys were keen to get back to winning ways. The Congs lost the toss and were asked to bowl by the Cleckheaton Captain. Opening bowlers Reace Istiaq and Dale Spink both bowled very tidy spells restricting the batting side to 16 from four over's with Spink removing Rob Lowe for a duck. Cal Murgatroyd also picked up a wicket from his three over spell, finishing with 5 for 1.Wasim Bashir kept the momentum going bowling three overs for 10 runs. Nathan Dalton worked hard without reward before Luke Parkin making his U13 debut took two wickets for 5 runs. With some great work in the field, Cleckheaton struggled to find runs. It was left to Tom Huffingly and Louis Surtees to polish off the home side with Tom finishing with 3 wickets for 12 runs. Louis ended up taking 3 for 3 from one over. Matt Humpleby also worked hard in the field to leave the home side on a modest 60 all out.
A very dangerous looking Shahid Raymond opened the bowling for Cleckheaton. Openers Keegan Moodley and Barney Gibson settled down and soon started to find the middle of the bat. Gibson hit 30 from 21 balls before retiring. Moodley also played some great strokes and raced to 20 not out hitting a lovely cover drive for 4 to finish the game in less than 8 overs and record a comprehensive 10 wicket win.

Well done to all the lads for responding in such a positive way.

Pudsey Congs U13's v Spen Victoria U13's
at Britannia Ground
Thursday May 1st, 2008

After a week of all junior matches been lost to the weather the under 13's were blessed with some half decent weather and were able to kick off there 2008 league campaign playing host to Spen Victoria. Congs won the toss and elected to have a bowl on what was a very green and damp wicket. Spen's batsmen had to work hard from the start to contend with some good bowling and a unpredictable track. Despite some good bowling and some great work in the field, Spen's batters got to grips with the tricky conditions and began to find the boundary rope at regular intervals. Tom Huffinley was the only bowler who managed to take a wicket having Jack Sedon 26 brilliantly caught at long off by Nathan Dalton. Spens A Wear also made a great contribution with the bat ending his innings on 31 not out leaving the visitors on a very competitive 90 for  2.

Congs openers Keegan Moodley and Callum Murgatroyd set about chasing down the Spen Victoria total. The score moved to 9 before Murgatroyd top edged one to square leg. Matt Humpleby came in at three and played well making his way to 8 before holing out at deep mid wicket. With the exception of Keegan Moodley 15, the rest of the Congs batting line up struggled to put together any sort of meaningful innings and wickets fell at regular intervals. Washim Bashir made 7 not out before the team slumped to a very disappointing 46 all out. Credit must go to Spen for a very polished performance with both bat and ball.

Despite losing the game the boys gave 100% commitment and played with pride and passion and will I am sure, bounce back over the course of the summer.

Spen Victoria 90 - 2

Pudsey Congs 46 All out
