Pudsey Congs v New Farnley

at Fulneck School

Saturday May 10th, 2008

Match report by Gary Lewsley

At last summer has arrived!!!!!, a warm and still day at Fulneck and the Congs at home to New Farnley.  At the toss New Farnley decided to bat first. A slow start from the visitors mainly thanks to good opening spells from the Congs opening bowlers the Patrick brothers Adam and John.  At drinks after half their innings New Farnley were 33-2.  Tight spells from Dominic Allen on debut and Steve Gunner ensured the Congs remained in control and walking off were delighted to have restricted the visitors to 122-5.  Sam Hewitt scored a great 81 not out in this total and demonstrated a good temperament for the visitors belying his young years (15).  The score would and definitely could have been around 100 due to an inconsistent ground fielding performance.

Farnley 122-5

The Congs struggled in reply and were 4 for 2 after losing Kettlewell and Lindley-Dawe. Steve Gunner and Naeem Aheer set about recovering the situation and dragged the score up to 44 in good time.  Unfortunately Steve hammered another straight to a fielder after a good 23 and Aheer was bowled after a good debut soon after. Lewsley came to the crease and made 26.  He was then adjudged LBW and the Congs set about achieving a draw from the last 12 overs.  With 7 overs left the result was confirmed after James Galvin was given LBW.  Dalby taking 6-19 to wrap up the victory for New Farnley.

Congs 91 all out

Farsley v Pudsey Congs

at Sandoz Sports Ground

Saturday May 3rd, 2008

Match report by Gary Lewsley

A young Pudsey outfit travelled the short distance to Farsley for the second match of the season.  On a dry day, the recent bad weather was evident with a slow pitch and an outfield full of dandelions. On winning the toss, the Congs decided to field.  Early and regular breakthroughs from Chris Doey were supplemented by the evergreen John Patrick.  A virtuoso performance from John resulted in his first hatrick of a long distinguished career.  The only opposition from Farsley came in the form of two ex Congs players, Sudano(25 Not out) and Brooks 14.

Farsley 49 all out

After a great fielding performance, the Congs switched the batting order to give the youngsters some experience of senior cricket.  Although none of the youngsters got high scores, a special mention for Nathan Dalton who stuck to the task well on a difficult pitch.  Massive sixes from Lindley-Dawe were again the highlight.  The opening bowlers for Farsley put up a great fight but were always a number of runs short of a par score.

Pudsey 50-7

Pudsey Congs v Rodley

at Fulneck School

Saturday April 26th, 2008

Match report by Gary Lewsley

Pudsey Congs 138 all out - James Bragg 52, James Lindley-Dawe 24

  Rodley 139 for 5

Rodley won the toss and elected to field on a wet slow wicket at Fulneck.  Pudsey started brightly with a brisk belligerent 24 from Lindley-Dawe and a positive 14 from Steve Gunner.  They both fell in quick succession and the Congs struggled on the slow pitch.  A gutsy 52 from James Bragg was the only other major contribution.  A final wicket partnership from Adam Patrick and Chris Doey got the C ongs up to a par looking score of 138.  Rodley's opening bowler John Blackburn returned figures of 5-34.

Rodley repiled to the Congs score with a solid but slow start. Great opening spells from John Patrick and Chris Brook were followed by Chris Doey and Steve Gunner.  John Patrick bowled up the hill for 12 unchanged overs for excellent figures of 2-14.  Again Gary Walton the leagues leading batsmen came to the champions rescue.  His 61 not out was to prove the difference between the sides as Rodley got home with 9 balls to spare.

On another day the Congs could have come off winners.  The rub of the green was definitely with Rodley today.
