The 2XI made it 4 wins from 4 games at the end of the season as they claimed a 88 run victory at last years champions East Bierley. A hot day and good batting track made it a good toss to win as Congs chose to bat first. Phil Allinson (52) put on 50 for the first wicket with Keegan Moodley (22) as they gave the team a great start. In scoring 52, Phil topped 600 runs for the season which is a great effort in such a difficult season. As Keegan fell, Irfan came to the crease and produced the type of innings that he has threatened for much of the season but only really delivered at the latter end. His 72 included some stunning drives and pieces of timing, it was a pleasure to watch. Along with Irfan, Imran pushed the score along in his typical fashion hitting 38 from 30 balls including 3 sixes. Congs finished on 210 for 6.
East Bierley had an equally quick start scoring at just under a run a ball in the 1st 10 overs. But in the 4th and 6th over Liam Stanhope delivered the 2 key wickets as Aaron Brook was well caught at cover by James Lindley-Dawe and then Steve Simpson was caught at mid off by Mike Oldfield. At 32 -2 Congs still had some work to do but Ramandeep with good work by Barney and skip Mike made 2 more breakthroughs to make it 90 for 4. From there East Bierley collapsed to 122 all out with Ramandeep finishing with 4-36, Mike with 3-14 and Liam 2- 29. A special mention goes to Josh Purser who wrapped up the innings taking his league wicket tally to 30 for the season.
This win meant the boys finished 10th which after spending most of the season in the bottom 2 was a good result. It also signalled my last game in charge after being captain for 3 years. I would just like to thank everyone that’s helped me throughout the 3 years, players, scorers, selection committee, parents, website guys (Glen and Paul) and the supporters who have followed us around the grounds. We’ve had some good days and bad days (especially this year) but the support has always been appreciated.

After a great win on the Saturday against Farsley, we went into the game with Keighley knowing that another win would hopefully see us safe from relegation. With the captain missing, the Congs were one bowler down and fielding first it was important we got of to a good start. The two opening bowlers stuck to their task and soon the wickets came. Keighley were reduced to 54 for 4 when the dangerous Allan Birkett came to the wicket. The introduction of the spin of Ramendeep Kang proved deceive and soon Keighley were reduced to 100 for 7 although a late rally saw them reach 134 but were bowled out for 137 with Callum Oliver, Liam Stanhope and Ramendeep Kang each picking up 3 wickets. The last wicket claimed by Josh Purser with some excellent late in swing.
The batting response started well with Phil Allinson and James Bragg again posting a good opening stand of 43. After James went for 19 the inform Irfan Amjad joined Phil and together they put on 70 for the second wicket, Phil fell first for 43, Irfan went soon after for 48. This topped an impressive weekend for Irfan with over 100 runs and two catches. James Lindley Dawe hit a quick 16 before missing a straight one to leave Callum Oliver and Keegan Moodley to see us home with 15 overs to spare. Other results went our way and we are now safe and looking forward to division 1 cricket in 2010. We can now look forward to visiting East Bierley on the final Saturday of the season.
As the stand in captain for the day I was pleased to pick up a win and would like to thank all the players for their support this season.

After a great win at Undercliffe, Congs entered the most important weekend of their season with a home game with Farsley. The visitors chose to bowl first and soon removed James Bragg stumped for 1. Phil and Irfan took the score to 44 before Phil perished for 17. Irfan carried on and proved to be the mainstay of the innings hitting a very good 65. Callum gave Irfan support with 24 but the lower order crumbled as Congs finished 152 all out.
A good start was required and Congs got it as Farsley were reduced to 21 for 4 with some tight bowling and another good fielding performance………the standard being set by James Lindley-Dawe. From then wickets fell at fairly regular intervals and were shared around as Liam picked up 3 wickets and Mike and Callum 2 each. Josh Purser took his league tally to 29 and a bizarre run out at the end sealed Farsleys fate as they were bowled out for 103. An important game against Keighley awaited the boys as they inched their way to safety!

The 2XI recorded their most important win of the season to date as they came away from Undercliffe with 17 points on Saturday. Asked to bat first, Congs made steady progress after the early loss of Phil Allinson for 3 as James Bragg (25) and Irfan Amjad (17) looked fairly comfortable. Another partnership that flourished was between top scorer of the innings Callum Oliver (42) and Ramandeep Kang (27). A cameo of 20 from skip Mike Oldfield at the end of the innings pushed the score up to 168 – 9 after 50 overs.
Pressure and early wickets was the aim as Congs took to the field. Undercliffe were reduced to 5 – 2 as Oldfield picked up early wickets. Josh Purser and Liam Stanhope joined the party as Undercliffe were struggling on 38 – 4. But that brought Burns and Heritage to the crease which were classed as the most dangerous batters. Congs enjoyed a slice of luck as Heritage made a mess of Ramandeeps first ball of the day giving keeper Barney a simple chance. From then on the pressure told together with some excellant all round fielding and Undercliffe finished 114 all out, Oldfield with 5 -17. A special mention goes to James Lindley-Dawe who earned a league fielding point and kept the boys going all day. Congs move 10 points clear of Undercliffe with 3 massive games remaining.

After winning the toss and asking Bowling Old Lane to bat first, the runs started to flow fast with the away side putting on 41 for the first wicket. The Congs bowlers pulled the game back with some tight bowling from Josh Tingle, Josh Purser 4-41, Callum Oliver 3-53 and Ramendeep Kang 2-32 and visitors were 126 for 8. However we lost our grip in the field and BOL added 80 runs for the last 2 wickets finishing on 202 for 9. This looked to be a total which would be hard to chase.
PCCC reply started well with the openers putting on 49 for the 1st wicket, Phil Allinson 20 and Keegan Moodley batting very well for his 39. But with some tight bowling BOL pilled the pressure on the Congs batting and wickets fell at regular intervals and the Congs were bowled out for 133 and never looked like reaching 202.
With a vital game this coming Saturday against Undercliffe, who are just 3 points ahead of us, we all must pull together to move out of the relegation zone.

Pudsey Congs 2XI were undone by the weather on Saturday as they were forced to accept a draw against Cleckheaton at the Britannia. Choosing to bat, Clecky made a decent start but Congs soon pulled it back and started taking regular wickets with Josh Purser the most successful taking 4-48. The other wickets were shared as Congs had Cleck on the rack. It wasn’t until the visitors latter order found the boundary that they pushed the score up to their finishing total of 177-9. Congs opening pair of Phil Allinson (18) and James Bragg (11) made a blistering start with 34 on the board with 7 overs before the rain started. It had halted play at the start of the day making it a 45 over game but this time there was no letting up as the outfield was quickly pooling and the square dangerously wet on the creases. Having lost 20 overs already, a very frustrated skip conceded there would be no more play and a chance to put one over a relegation rival was lost. Five very important games remain.

PCCC won the toss and batted. After a good start, wickets fell at regular intervals. There were good contributions from R Kang 36, I Ahmed 29, P Allinson 26, J Lindley-Dawe 19 and A Slater 15. Congs finished on 148 for 9. It was pleasing to bat 50 overs and not be bowled out against the league leaders.
The Congs bowling was less impressive and Pudsey St Lawrence made short work of chasing down the target in only 18 overs with the loss of 2 wickets, the stand out performance coming from D Hester making 101 not out.
With games against all the sides around us at the bottom of the league the upcoming fixtures are vital that we get quickly into winning ways.
In closing, I must mention the horrible injury to Simon Raistrick who has suffered a break to his thumb at the end of the game. Simon has spent two nights in hospital and an operation on his thumb and will be out for the rest of the season. All the team wish him well and a speedy recovery.

After the highs of Saturday, Congs welcomed East Bierley to the Britannia wondering if a full game was possible. Choosing to bat on a slightly damp wicket, the visitors rode their luck at times but also struck the ball well at other times amassing 228-6 with Liam Stanhope 3-63 and Simon Raistrick 2-45. Arron Brook was the main stay of the innings for Bierley with 96. The showers that had been present in the 1st innings came back at tea and unfortunately didn’t stop. After 20 overs had been lost, both captains had had enough and the handshake took place to end the game. Congs took 5 points and East Bierley 7 points.
Overall a good weekend from two difficult games and hopefully this will spur the boys on to a few more wins and ultimately safety!

UNBELIEVABLE!!!……….. .Those were the words uttered by the 2XI as they pulled off by far their best result of the season picking up a maximum 20 points at Hanging Heaton. The home side started quickly as pinch hitter Royce hit a quick 60. A couple more contributed including Summerscales (59) but all the time wickets were being picked up fairly regularly as Oldfield (3-51) and Oliver (3-18) did the most damage. The home side just about recorded full batting points ending on 225 all out.
Bat 50 overs was the message and it started well as Allinson (43) and Bragg (36) continued their good partnerships of late. Callum Oliver made a useful contribution with 38 but with some tight bowling Congs fell behind the run rate. Enter the hero James Lindley-Dawe. The hard hitting middle order batsmen attacked the Hanging Heaton attack sending most of the balls over the rope for maximums. One ball even cleared the unclearable netting and was still rising. It was one of the best exhibitions of clean hitting I’ve seen as James won the game with another 6 finishing 67* sending his team mates and the Congs support wild!

Frustration was the word as the 2XI put together one of their better performances this season only to fall short by 12 runs. They reduced Yeadon to 54-4 on a slow pitch before the home side rallied with a couple of partnerships, Halliday (47) and Mooney (52*) the run scorers. A couple of misfields and some more dropped chances let Yeadon off the hook as they finished 190 – 7 with Oldfield finishing 2-36 and Stanhope 2- 25.
The run chase began well as Allinson (33) and Bragg (45) took us to a comfortable 82-0 at drinks. The bowling changes then caused problems as the runs dried up and wickets began to fall. Both openers went within 10 runs and then as people tried to push the run rate along they perished. Only Irfan Amjad remained finishing with 60 but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough as his was the 9th wicket to fall. Liam was last man out leaving Yeadon bowler Darfield with 7 – 33.

The Congs 2XI once again suffered another disappointing Saturday afternoon as they went down by 91 at home to Baildon. Bowling first on a damp wicket, the Congs bowlers lacked consistency and bowled far too many ‘4’ balls as they allowed the visitors to amass 219 for 9. Baildon opener Todd hit 103 and was the mainstay of the innings. Skip Mike Oldfield tied up one end returning figures of 4-19 from 15 overs, while Josh Purser and Steve Gunner grabbed a brace apiece. The Congs batters dealt with early Baildon pressure well but as they tried to push the run rate on, lost wickets at regular intervals. James Lindley-Dawe top scored with 32 as he hit some lusty blows, Phil Allinson made 29 and there was a quick 21* from Oldfield at the end of the innings but the underlying factor is that once again we have failed to bat 50 overs and therefore really trouble the other teams score. With Keighley below us and Cleckheaton and Undercliffe 11 points above us there is still alot to play for but improvements need to be made.

The 2XI recorded a much needed win yesterday defeating Morley by 3 wickets at the Britannia. Morley won the toss and elected to bat on another good batting track. Congs opened the bowling with Josh Purser and 1st team bowler Josh Tingle. Tingle bowled quick in a 8 over spell picking up a couple of wickets while Purser had already claimed the first wicket of the day during a 6 over spell. Through the innings wickets fell regularly and their was some good work done in the field, much improvement from previous weeks. Skip Oldfield picked up a couple of wickets mid innings and then Simon Raistrick bowled a good spell claiming 3 for 17 while Tingle finished with 4 – 31. Congs reqiured 131 for victory. The 2nd innings started badly as Phil Allinson was trapped LBW making Congs 0-1. It was James Bragg and Calum Oliver who got the innings going as they stroked the ball around picking the gaps well. Bragg finished with 39 and Oliver 32. James Lindley-Dawe found the boundary regularly with a quick knock but it was left to Barney Gibson to hit the winning runs in a good little cameo innings in which he looked very comfortable. Congs reached their target with 7 wkts down.

East Bierley visited the Britannia on Sunday in the Quarter Final of the Priestley Shield. Another good batting track signalled another chance for the Congs batters to find form as we elected to bat first. Things were going well on 50-2 as once again Irfan Amjad was looking very comfortable finding the boundary regularly. Unfortunately a couple of loose shots in the middle order, plus a communication mix, led to Irfan being run out and Congs slumped to 60-7. The lower order held out as long as possible but finished on 79 all out.
East Bierley lost 2 wickets in chasing the modest total posted by Congs. Josh Purser bowling well again picked up both as another early finish loomed. Next week signals the turn around but it also signals the time when Congs need to pick some form up as they welcome Morley and Baildon to the Britannia in the next couple of weeks.

Congs 2XI visited Farsley on Saturday and were asked to bat on what turned out to be a slow but true wicket. In previous games the Congs batters have given their wicket away but to give Farsley some credit they bowled good lines and lengths. Only Irfan Amjad looked liked he may stick around as Congs were bowled out for 84. To give the boys credit we came out and showed some pride taking 5 of Farsley’s wickets before they reached our total, Simon Raistrick taking 2 of these.

Sunday saw Congs travel to bottom club Keighley needing a win to give themselves some breathing space in the table. Asked to bowl first Congs restricted the home side to 205-5 and in spells bowled well, especially Josh Purser returning 1-34 from 12. But the ground fielding at times was very poor and another 4 or 5 chances went down which obviously made the job harder. Phil Allinson led the reply with 80 and all looked comfortable as Phil and Callum Oliver (27) but on 74 for the 2nd wicket. But then it was a repeat of Saturday as Congs gave themselves just a little too much to do as Keighley produced some tight bowling mid innings. The last 7 wickets were lost for 24 runs and Congs finished with 158 all out. A disappointing weekend but still alot of cricket to come, the boys have got to keep their heads up and keep fighting!

An important weekend for the 2XI started with a home game vs Undercliffe. On a good track Congs batted first and got a good start as Phil Allinson (37) and Imran Ahmed (78) put on 87 for the 1st wicket. That period of the game co-insided with experienced campaigner Russel Heritage bowling. He bowled with control and really put the brakes on the innings as Congs limped to 172-8. The line up never gave Imran the support.
It was that man Heritage who proved the difference with the bat as he guided his side to a 6 wicket win as he carried his bat making 83*. The Congs attack bowled quite well but once again put important chancesdown and never gave themselves enough to defend.

On a wet wicket with very little preparation, PCCC lost an important toss and were asked to bat. Things started badly losing Phil Allinson off the first ball of the game, two further wickets fell and at 26 for 3 Steve Gunner missed a pull shot and was hit on the chin and retired hurt and finished up with 4 stitches. Callum Oliver (44) and Paul Slater (25) steadied the innings adding 59 for the fourth wicket. Once they had gone the Congs managed to reach 136 all out.
The second innings started well claiming the first 2 BOL wickets in the first 2 overs and the target of 136 looked challenging but Bowling Old Lane’s number 4 batsman Farooq set about the Congs bowling and smashed 93 not out in short time with BOL finishing the game inside 18 overs.
We now look forward to a huge double weekend against both the sides below us in the table. It is important that we bounce straight back into winning ways.

Cleckheaton provided the venue for the 2XI’s second victory of the season as they recorded a 7 wicket win.
Another hot day and another good batting track, Congs gambled and bowled first as previously that has been the strongest part of their game. Josh Purser struck early but then Dobson (85) and Blackburn (69) put on 100 for the second wicket. The Cleckheaton scoring was slowed down by the introduction of Ramandeep Kang making his league debut for the club. He bowled with control and guile finishing with 5-61 from 14 overs. Skip Oldfield chipped in with 4-58 as the home side were bowled out for 213.
Congs took full advantage of the good wicket, short boundary and quick outfield as they set about the Cleckheaton attack. After losing Imran early, Phil Allinson and Steve Gunner started to find the boundary at regular intervals. Phil batted really well carrying his bat through the innings finishing 86* making the chase look easy. He was very well supported by Gunner (36) Paul Slater (30) and Ramandeep who capped an excellent game finishing 47 not out as Congs took 19 points from a possible 20. The team had highlighted the next 5 games as being very important to get our season going, so hopefully this result will provide the confidence required to climb the table.

The Pudsey derby went the way of the visitors PSL at ‘The Britannia’. They took full advantage of a good wicket as they compiled 328 for 6 with Dave Hester making 159. The Congs bowlers toiled in the heat but made it easy for the batters bowling 2 bad balls an over which usually found the boundary or in some cases a nearby garden!
The message at tea was simple, bat 50 overs and use the innings as batting practice for the future weeks. Unfortunately we weren’t able to do that as we were rolled for just 80 with the only resistance coming from skip Mike Oldfield (32*).
The next 5 games see us play sides mostly in the bottom half of the table and wins are a necessity!

It was a day of highs and lows for the 2XI on Saturday as they faced Yeadon in the Priestley Shield bowl out before travelling to Woodlands at Albert Terrace. Congs went 1-0 down in the penalty shoot out style bowl out before Phil Allinson levelled the scores. In front of a decent crowd the tension built as the last of Yeadons bowlers missed. That left Simon Raistrick, the last bowler for Congs to smash middle stump out of the ground setting up a home tie with either Woodlands or East Bierley.
So we travelled to Woodlands on a high looking to make it 2 league wins from 2. We were faced with 22 yards of rolled mud on arrival and what proved to be a very slow low wicket. Woodlands were inserted and the innings seemed to swing towards both teams as both had periods on top. At 136-7 we were quite happy but we let our foot off the gas as the home side finished 177 all out, Medcalf (44) hitting 3 consecutive 6’s in the last over to lift Woodlands spirits and slightly dampen ours. The chase started well as Phil Allinson(47) and Andre Stolarski (14) and then Phil and Irfan (39) had good partnerships to set us on course for victory. But then disaster as Congs slipped from 122-3 to 145 all out as Woodlands skipper Phil Walker bowled his usual tight spell ( 3- 6) which the Congs line up couldn’t deal with. A disappointing end just to finish up with 6 points which leaves us still 2nd bottom with work to do!

Sunday saw Yeadon visit the Britannia in the Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield 2nd round. Only 8 overs were possible before the rain clouds dumped too much water on the field that was possible to deal with. After an early tea, a bowl out was decided. But even the artificial nets were flooded so Yeadon will make the trip back over to Pudsey Congs next Saturday at 11am before both teams respective games to complete the second round tie!!

Congs 2XI recorded their 1st win of the season at Baildon on Saturday by 5 wickets. On a very muddy wicket it was an important toss to win that put Baildon into bat first. The bowling attack performed well reducing the home side to 35 for 5 at drinks. Due to an improving wicket and some late order shot making Baildon reached 123 all out. The wickets were shared but spell of the day was Simon Raistricks 2 for 23 from 15 overs. It was a welcome return to form for Simon and he derserved more than the 2 wickets he got. Special mention goes to Paul Slater for his exceptional piece of juggling that brought a smile to the boys faces. We knew the chase we would be difficult and it proved so as Congs were reduced to 22 for 4 from 10 overs. Enter Paul Slater (53*) and James Bragg (39) who put on a stand of 87. Both players were absolutely fantastic playing with common sense and great shot making to secure a 15 point win which hopefully is the 1st of many!

Another disappointing day for the 2XI saw them go down by 121 runs to Hanging Heaton at the Britannia. The visitors got off to a fast start due to the pinch hitting of Royce (75). Congs managed to pull the game back which left the score at 120-5 but then another partnership involving ex Congs player Michael Horner (58) saw Hanging Heaton build a score of 218 all out. Skip Mike Oldfield 4-33 and spinner Steve Gunner 4-64 were the pick of the bowlers. The home side were happy at tea to have restricted the visitors to 218 on a very good wicket with a short boundary given the start they had enjoyed.
The reply was very disapointing as none of the batters applied themselves to bat any length of time which in the first 3 games has been the major problem. Irfan Amjad offered some wonderful strokeplay for his 22 before becoming one of 5 victims to Hanging Heaton spinner Umar Rehman (5-8). Mike Oldfield made an unbeaten 22 as his side crawled to 97 all out. It is obvious that the boys need to up their game in all departments and everyone has a responsibility to do this if we are to climb out of the bottom 2 in the league table.

After the heavy defeat to Yeadon in week one, the 2nd team went to Morley hoping to put last week behind us, and the game started well eith the Congs winning the toss and batting on a good wicket. The opening partnership between Phil Allinson (63) and James Bragg (34) put on 74 then Irfan Amjad (22) added 51 with P Allinson for the second wicket, before a middle order collapse losing 4 wickets for only 10 runs. Steve Gunner (70no) and Liam Stanhope (13no) closed the innings with an unbeaten 7th wicket partnership of 78 to finish on 213 for 6. This was a good total but could have been more. The 2nd innings again started well and after 12 overs Morley were reduced to 3 for 30. Morley fought back with a good 4th wicket partnership of 82 between their two young players Jack Sedden (52) and James McNicol (50) to put the home team back in front. The game went down to the last over with the home team wanting 8 runs and only 1 wicket left. Unfortunately for the visitors, Morley hit two fours in the last over to win a very close game. Liam Stanhope finished with 4 for 43 for PCCC. Hopefully the break at the bank holiday weekend and the return of some key players will change the fortunes and put us bank on winning ways.

The 2XI started the season in disappointing fashion as they went down by 166 runs at the Britannia. The day started well as Yeadon were reduced to 37 for 5 with Liam Stanhope doing the damage, eventually ending up with 7 – 71. Yeadon rescued their innings, mainly due to Halliday hitting 156 allowing Yeadon to finish with 258 – 9.
Congs tried to set a quick pace in reply but it led to their downfall as they were bowled out for 92. The Congs line up had a youthful look about it as Barney Gibson took the gloves for the first time and there were appearances for Matty Humpleby and Dale Spink. Its great to these young players getting the chance to play Bradford League Cricket early in their careers!
Next week Phil Allinson, deputising for Captain Mike Oldfield, takes the team to newly promoted Morley.
