2XI MATCH REPORTS 2022
Saturday May 21, 2022 v Morley at Amber Cars Britannia Ground
An excellent victory over Morley was achieved by some careful batting on another exemplary surface at the Amber Cars Britannia Ground.
Morley put bat to ball as they scored quickly from the word go. Helped by some sloppy fielding, all the bowlers except Captain Adam Patrick (3 for 44 in 15 overs) conceding more than 4 an over, yet there were a couple of outstanding moments when Liam Stanhope created a top run out with an arrow like return to the keeper followed by a good catch in the deep. Hassan Butt contributed nine steady overs, 2 for 35, and Morley closed on 201 for 5. Also to our credit, there were NO wides, good!
Bilal and Hassan Butt carefully crafted a very polished display in reply taking the score to 85, scoring pretty much all round the ground before being dismissed for 39 and 50 respectively. Quality batting skills, a pleasure to watch. Mark Ferguson showed his power with 7 x 4 and 1 x 6 in his 43 and was well supported by Macauley Gaunt 33 not out (maybe a career best?) It was especially nice to see Chris Doey on the field after serious injuries hitting a big 6 to win the game in the 43rd over.
